This article covers the key things to know before and during installation of the InView RVS-02-360 360-degree camera system, including camera placement, power connections, and ECU mounting. If you are setting up the system for the first time, read through this article before you begin.
Camera Placement
Good camera placement is the most important factor in getting a clear, complete 360-degree view. Keep these guidelines in mind:
- Front and rear cameras: Mount on the centerline of the vehicle, as high as possible.
- Side cameras: Mount equidistant from the centerline and at the same height as the front and rear cameras. Minor height differences of 2 to 3 inches are acceptable, but larger gaps will affect the stitched image.
- Place all cameras as high and as centered as possible to avoid obstructions in the field of view.
- Watch out for mirrors, roof edges, and other vehicle elements that can create blind spots in the camera view.
Long-nosed vehicles (box trucks, cab-over trucks): Mount the front camera at the tip of the hood rather than on the cab. This gives you the widest field of view and lets you see more of the road surface directly in front of the vehicle.
After installation, if your 360-degree image looks misaligned or has visible seams, see InView 360° Stitching Looks Wrong: How to Recalibrate for calibration steps.
Power Connections
- Connect to ignition power only. Do not connect to auxiliary power.
- Use in-line fuses on both the monitor and ECU power connections for surge protection.
- Place fuses as close to the power source as possible and use weatherproof fuse receptacles.
- Cut the extension power lines to length before connecting.
Wire colors:
| Wire | Connection |
|---|---|
| Red | Vehicle power (battery) |
| Yellow | Vehicle ignition |
| Black | Vehicle ground |
Trigger wires:
| Wire | Function |
|---|---|
| Purple | Activates the turn cameras |
| Brown | Activates the rear camera |
Connecting a Monitor
To view the 360-degree image in the cab, connect a monitor to the ECU harness:
- For a standard definition monitor, use the CVBS connector.
- For an HD monitor, use the VGA connector.
Note: Monitors are not included with the RVS-02-360 system and are sold separately.
ECU Mounting
- Mount the ECU against a metal surface for optimal heat dissipation.
- Avoid mounting on or near insulating materials like carpet or rubber.
Common Issues
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| The system does not power on | Confirm the red wire is on vehicle power and the yellow is on ignition, not auxiliary power |
| Cameras do not trigger when turning | Check the purple trigger wire connection |
| The rear camera does not activate | Check the brown trigger wire connection |
| The 360-degree image looks misaligned | See the calibration article linked below |
| ECU feels very hot | Check that it is mounted against a metal surface, not carpet or rubber |
