If your MobileMule DVR isn't turning on, shuts off unexpectedly, or shows no lights, the issue is almost always related to wiring or a blown fuse rather than a faulty unit. Here's how to check.
Check your wiring connections
Your DVR has three main power wires:
- Red wire = Battery (constant 12V power source)
- Yellow wire = Ignition (powers on with your vehicle's ACC/ignition)
- Black wire = Ground
- Confirm the red wire is connected to a constant 12V power source and the connection is tight.
- Confirm the yellow wire is connected to your vehicle's ignition (ACC) wire. If your DVR is wired to ignition, it will only power on when your key is in the ON or ACC position.
- Confirm the black wire is grounded to bare metal on your vehicle's chassis — not a painted surface.
Check the fuse
Your DVR's power harness has an inline 3A fuse. Locate it near the power connection and check whether it has blown. Replace it if needed.
Check your DVR status light
The light on your DVR tells you what it's doing:
| Light Color | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Purple | Starting up (standby) |
| Green | The vehicle is moving |
| Blue | Vehicle is idle / parked |
| Red | Error detected |
| Yellow | ACC is off / shutting down |
If you see a blue or purple light, your DVR is on and working normally. If you see no light at all, the unit is not receiving power.
Common problems
DVR turns on, then shuts right off: This usually means a voltage drop. Check the wire connections and make sure the wire gauge used for your power run is adequate.
No lights at all: Check the 3A fuse first. If the fuse is fine, use a multimeter to confirm 12V is reaching the DVR's power input.
DVR only turns on sometimes: This is usually an intermittent connection on the yellow (ignition) wire. Inspect that connection on your vehicle's harness.
