Before You Begin
You will need access to five wires in the cab: accessory/ignition, chassis ground, reverse, left front turn signal, and right front turn signal. Use the front turn signal wires. Connecting to the rear turn signals or stop lights will cause the side cameras to trigger incorrectly when braking.
Installation Steps
1. Mount the monitor. Position the monitor where the driver can see it without blocking their view of the road. Sit in the driver's seat to confirm the angle before drilling. Use machine screws, nuts, and washers to secure it.
2. Install the side cameras. Mount one camera on each side of the vehicle, flush to the fender or body panel, angled 8 degrees toward the rear. Mount below any air vents, never in front of them. Drill a 3/4" hole for the cable, coat the hole with brush-on primer, apply the foam sealing tape, and secure the camera with machine screws, nuts, and washers.
3. Install the rear camera. Mount the backup camera above the rear door, centered if possible. Avoid mounting above a running light. Secure the bracket with 10-24 x 1" machine screws and drill a 3/4" hole for the cable. Do not fully tighten the camera until the system is powered up and the angle is confirmed.
4. Mount the ECU. Install the sensor control module in the rear driver-side corner of the vehicle, either inside the cargo area or on the underside of the floor, depending on vehicle type. Secure with bolts or self-drilling screws. Confirm all watertight connectors are fully seated.
5. Install the six backup sensors. Each sensor is labeled for its mounting location: DU (Driver Upper), PU (Passenger Upper), DO (Driver Outer), DI (Driver Inner), PI (Passenger Inner), PO (Passenger Outer). Upper sensors mount near the top outside corners of the body. Lower sensors mount below the rear door, above the bumper, or in the bumper. Drill a 1" hole for each sensor, apply primer, insert the rubber boot, and install the sensor with the arrow and "hood" oriented upward.
6. Connect the reverse wire. Extend the ECU's yellow reverse wire to the vehicle's backup light wire inside the cargo area. Loom all exposed wire runs.
7. Route all cables to the cab. Run cables from the rear of the vehicle to the cab through existing wire channels or body framing wherever possible. Keep all cables clear of door springs, door cables, and rollers. Secure cables with loom clamps or zip ties every 18" to 24". If using adhesive stick tabs, reinforce with a center screw or a bead of silicone around the perimeter. Double-sided tape alone will fail.
8. Make the electrical connections. Connect the power harness wires in the cab: red to ignition, black to ground, blue to reverse signal, yellow to left front turn signal, brown to right front turn signal.
Verify the Installation
Before finishing, confirm the following:
- Rear camera displays full screen in reverse
- Driver-side camera displays full screen with the left turn signal
- Passenger-side camera displays full screen with the right turn signal
- Both side cameras work correctly when the brake pedal is pressed
- All six sensors trigger visually on the monitor and audibly when an object is detected
- Rear camera angle shows the edge of the bumper
- Monitor turns off when the ignition is off
Leave the RVS Quick Start guide and operation booklet in the vehicle.
Common Issues
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| Rear camera does not appear in reverse | Confirm the ECU yellow wire is connected to the vehicle's backup light wire |
| Side camera triggers when braking | Connection is on a shared stop/turn wire; move to the front turn signal wire |
| Side camera does not trigger with turn signal | Check the (driver) and (passenger) wire connections at the monitor |
| A sensor does not trigger | Confirm it is plugged into the correct labeled ECU port and oriented with the arrow up |
| Monitor does not power on | Check the red ignition wire and chassis ground connection Make sure the power harness CLICKS into the monitor |
| Camera image is washed out | Camera is too close to a running light; reposition it |
