How to Identify Your System (AHD vs CVBS vs FHD)

Before troubleshooting or ordering replacement parts, it's important to know which type of system you have. Using incompatible cameras, cables, or monitors can cause issues like "No Signal" or poor image quality.

Step 1 — Check Your Part Number

Look at the label on your monitor, camera, or product box. The model number will tell you a lot.

AHD systems typically include:

  • "AHD" in the model name (example: RVS-770AHD)
  • A part number ending in "-AHD"

FHD systems typically include:

  • "FHD" or "CA" in the model name

Standard CVBS systems:

  • Usually do NOT include AHD or FHD in the model name
  • If there's no signal type indicator, it's likely a standard CVBS system

Step 2 — Check Your Cable and Connector Type

Most RVS systems use a 4-pin round connector. The important thing to know is that the connector looks the same across all three signal types.

Important: Just because the connector fits does NOT mean the camera and monitor are compatible. AHD, CVBS, and FHD systems all use similar connectors but are NOT interchangeable.

Step 3 — Check Your Monitor Compatibility

Your monitor determines what will work with your system.

Monitor Type Compatible Cameras
CVBS monitor CVBS cameras only
AHD monitor AHD cameras only
FHD monitor FHD, AHD, and CVBS cameras

Common Compatibility Issues

Combination Result
AHD camera + CVBS monitor No Signal
FHD camera + non-FHD monitor No Signal
Mixing different signal types No image or poor image quality
