SD Card and Storage Issues

If your MobileMule DVR isn't detecting your SD card, isn't recording, or you can't find footage you expected to be saved, here's how to fix it.

Before you start — SD card requirements

For best results, use an SD card that meets these specs:

  • Speed: Class 10 or U3
  • Capacity: 64GB to 256GB
  • Brand: SanDisk or Samsung recommended
  • Important: Always format your SD card in the DVR itself, never on a computer. Formatting on a PC uses a different file system that the DVR won't recognize.

My DVR isn't detecting the SD card

  1. Power off the DVR and remove the SD card.
  2. Check the card for any visible damage.
  3. Reinsert the card firmly until it clicks into place.
  4. Power the DVR back on and check whether it detects the card.

My DVR isn't recording

  1. Log in to your DVR (default username: ADMIN/password: 888888).
  2. Go to Tools > Format, select your SD card, and confirm the format.
    • This will erase all existing footage and may cause a reboot — this is normal.
  3. After formatting, go to Record Settings and make sure recording is set to Continuous.

I can't find my recorded footage

  1. Go to Search / Playback in your DVR menu.
  2. Select the correct date and camera channel.
  3. If the footage isn't there, it may have been overwritten. Your DVR automatically deletes the oldest footage when the SD card is full to make room for new recordings. Upgrading to a larger SD card will help retain footage longer.

Viewing footage on a computer

DVR footage files use a proprietary format and won't open in standard media players like Windows Media Player or VLC. To view footage on a PC:

  1. Remove the SD card and insert it into your computer using an SD card reader.
  2. Download the free RVS playback software at rearviewsafety.com/software.
  3. Open the software and navigate to the footage files on your SD card.

Common problems

DVR is beeping: A beeping DVR usually means the SD card is missing or full. Check the card status first.

"Disk Error" message: Try reformatting the SD card through the DVR menu. If the error continues with a brand new card, contact support.
