How to Install and Mount the RD-24E1S Radar + Camera System
The RD-24E1S is an all-in-one radar and camera system that combines a 24GHz radar sensor, a camera, and a monitor into one compact unit. It detects people and objects behind your vehicle up to 4.3 meters away and provides both a visual camera feed and audible alerts to the driver.
Because the radar sensor and camera are integrated into one housing, installation is simpler than installing them separately — just one cable runs from the unit to the monitor in the cab.
What's in the Box
Before you start, confirm you have:
- RD-24E1S radar and camera unit
- Mounting bracket
- Monitor with radar display
- Power and video cable
- Hardware (bolts, screws)
Step 1 — Choose a mounting location
Mounting position is critical for accurate radar detection. A poor mounting angle will cause false alerts or missed detections.
- Mount the unit at the rear of the vehicle, centered horizontally where possible
- The unit needs a clear, unobstructed view of the area behind the vehicle — avoid mounting behind metal bumpers, trailer hitches, or other objects that block the radar field
- Mount at a height that allows the radar detection zone to cover the ground plane behind the vehicle — refer to your product manual for the recommended height range for your vehicle type
- Confirm the mounting surface is solid and can handle vehicle vibration
Step 2 — Mount the unit
- Attach the mounting bracket to the vehicle using the included hardware
- Attach the RD-24E1S unit to the bracket
- Adjust the tilt angle of the unit so the camera view is level and the radar detection zone points toward the ground plane behind the vehicle
- Tighten all mounting hardware firmly — vibration from vehicle operation can loosen mounts over time
Step 3 — Wire the unit
- Connect the power wire to a switched 12V source — either the ignition (ACC) wire so the system powers on with the vehicle, or the reverse trigger wire so it only activates in reverse
- Connect the ground wire to bare metal on the vehicle chassis — not a painted surface
- Route the video/signal cable from the RD-24E1S unit to the monitor in the cab, securing it along the vehicle frame to prevent damage
- Connect the cable to the monitor's input port
Step 4 — Power on and test
- Power on the system and confirm the monitor is displaying the camera feed
- Check that the radar display on the monitor is active
- Have a second person walk behind the vehicle at different distances to confirm:
- The radar alerts trigger at the expected range
- The audible alert sounds when a person enters the detection zone
- If alerts are triggering too early or too late, adjust the mounting tilt angle slightly and retest
Detection Zone Modes
The RD-24E1S supports three detection zone sizes. You can select the mode that best fits your vehicle and application:
| Mode | Detection Zone |
|---|---|
| Mode 1 | 3.0m x 5.0m (largest zone) |
| Mode 2 | 2.5m x 4.0m (medium zone) |
| Mode 3 | 2.0m x 3.0m (smallest zone) |
To change the detection zone mode, refer to the settings menu on your radar monitor.
Common Issues
Radar triggers at incorrect distances: The radar detection zone is sensitive to vertical tilt. If alerts are triggering too far away or too close, loosen the mounting bracket and adjust the tilt angle slightly downward or upward, then retest.
Camera image appears angled or tilted: Loosen the mounting bracket and re-tilt the unit until the horizon line in the camera image appears level.
Unit not powering on after installation: Check the power wire connection and confirm 12V is present at the power input. Check the inline fuse in the power harness and replace if blown.
