How to Adjust Radar Sensitivity and Alerts on the RD-24E1S
The RD-24E1S radar sensitivity and alert settings can be adjusted to match your vehicle and work environment. If you're getting too many false alerts in busy areas, or if the alerts aren't triggering soon enough, adjusting these settings will help.
Before You Start
Make sure your system is fully installed and powered on. Refer to: How to Install and Mount the RD-24E1S Radar + Camera System if you haven't completed installation yet.
Step 1 — Access the settings menu
- Power on the system
- On the radar monitor, access the Settings or Menu
- Navigate to Radar Settings or Sensor Configuration
Step 2 — Adjust detection sensitivity
- Find the Detection Range or Sensitivity setting
- Adjust to your preferred level:
- Higher sensitivity = alerts trigger at greater distances (earlier warning)
- Lower sensitivity = alerts only trigger at closer range (fewer false alerts)
- Save the setting
Step 3 — Select your detection zone mode
The RD-24E1S has three detection zone sizes. Choose the one that best fits your application:
| Mode | Detection Zone | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Mode 1 | 3.0m x 5.0m | Open areas, large vehicles needing maximum warning distance |
| Mode 2 | 2.5m x 4.0m | General use, balanced detection |
| Mode 3 | 2.0m x 3.0m | Busy work sites, areas with frequent pedestrian traffic nearby |
Step 4 — Configure alert type
- In the settings menu, find Alert Type or Warning Mode
- Choose your preferred alert:
- Audible only — beep sounds when an object is detected
- Visual only — on-screen warning appears on the monitor
- Both — audible and visual alerts together (recommended)
- Save the setting
Step 5 — Test your settings
- Have a person walk behind the vehicle at different distances
- Confirm the alert triggers at the distance you expect based on your sensitivity setting
- Adjust and retest until the detection behavior matches your needs
Common Issues
Too many false alerts in traffic or busy work sites: Reduce the sensitivity setting or switch to a smaller detection zone mode (Mode 3). This narrows the detection area and reduces false triggers from passing traffic.
Alert not triggering until an object is very close: Increase the sensitivity setting or switch to a larger detection zone mode (Mode 1). Also, check your mounting angle — a unit tilted too far up or down will affect detection range.
Alert sound is too loud or too quiet: Adjust the volume in the monitor's settings menu.
Alerts stopped working entirely: Refer to: RD-24E1S: Troubleshooting Guide
