How to Identify Your Rear View Safety System

Not sure what system you have? You're not alone — identifying your system first helps us get you the right answer faster. Follow the steps below to figure out what you're working with.

Step 1 — What does your setup look like?

Start here. Pick the description that best matches what you have installed on your vehicle.

I have a camera and a monitor, but no recording device

You likely have: A standard backup camera system or a monitor-only system.

This is the most common setup. A camera is mounted at the rear (or sides) of your vehicle and connects to a monitor in the cab. There is no separate recording box.

I have a black or blue box mounted in my vehicle that records video

You likely have: A MobileMule™ DVR system.

The DVR (Digital Video Recorder) is a separate unit that connects to multiple cameras and records footage to an SD card or hard drive.

  • Black box = MobileMule standard DVR (5500, 1080, or 8171 Series)
  • Blue box = MobileMule AI DVR (5200 or 8200 Series)

I have four cameras that show a stitched bird's-eye view around my vehicle

You likely have: An InView 360° system.

The InView 360° system uses four cameras to create a seamless overhead surround view of your vehicle on a monitor.

  • RVS-02-360 = standard surround view system
  • RVS-03-360 / 360-K1EA = surround view system with AI and recording

I have a wireless backup camera with no cables running through the vehicle

You likely have: An Air Vue™ wireless backup camera system.

The Air Vue uses a transmitter at the rear of the vehicle and a receiver at the monitor to send video wirelessly — no long cable runs required.

I have a radar sensor and camera at the rear of my vehicle

You likely have: The RD-24E1S All-In-One Radar + Camera System.

This unit combines a radar sensor, camera, and monitor in one system and alerts you to objects behind your vehicle with both visual and audible warnings.

I drive for FedEx and my vehicle has a camera system

You likely have: A FedEx P&D camera system.

FedEx contractors use specific camera configurations depending on their vehicle type. These systems have their own identification guide.

Step 2 — Identify your camera or connector type

If you're troubleshooting a camera issue or ordering a replacement part, you also need to know what type of camera signal your system uses. RVS systems use one of three types:

Type What It Looks Like Common In
AHD High definition, clear image Newer RVS systems, MobileMule DVRs
CVBS Standard definition, slightly softer image Older RVS systems
FHD Full HD, very sharp image InView 360° FHD systems

Important: Matching connector types does NOT guarantee compatibility. A camera and monitor or DVR must use the same signal type (AHD, CVBS, or FHD) to work together. Mixing signal types will result in no image or a black screen.

Go to: How to Identify Your System (AHD vs CVBS vs FHD)

Still not sure?

Take a photo of your system — the camera, any cables, the monitor, and any recording box — and send it to our support team. We'll identify it for you.
